Η υπόθεση
Ένα ενδιαφέρον ντοκυμαντέρ νοτιοκορεάτικης παραγωγής, όπου ο σκηνοθέτης Mun Jeong-Hyun ανιχνεύοντας το παρελθόν της οικογένειας του, ανακαλύπτει την κρυμμένη για δεκαετίες τραγική ιστορία διωγμών, βασανισμών, εκτελέσεων που υπέστησαν πολλά μέλη της οικογένειας του που εντάχθηκαν στις γραμμές του Κορεάτικου Λαϊκού Στρατού στα χρόνια της ιμπεριαλιστικής επέμβασης των Αμερικανών στην Κορέα.
Στο ντοκυμαντέρ αυτό σημειώνεται με νηφάλιο τρόπο η αξιοποίηση της επιρροής της εκκλησίας, της εξαγοράς, αλλά και της αμορφωσιάς των εξαθλιωμένων κατοίκων της νοτιοκορεάτικης υπαίθρου από το στυγνό καθεστώς ανδρεικέλων της Νοτίου Κορέας, ώστε να καταφέρει τελικά να προσεταιριστεί ένα μέρος αυτών των ανθρώπων στον αγώνα της ενάντια στο αντιιμπεριαλιστικό λαϊκό κίνημα της Κορέας.
Οι ομοιότητες με την αντίστοιχη περίοδο του ελληνικού εμφυλίου πολέμου είναι προφανείς, όπως και η «μοίρα» των αγωνιστών της Εθνικής Αντίστασης και του Δημοκρατικού Στρατού Ελλάδας, είναι παρόμοια με αυτήν των εκατοντάδων χιλιάδων αγωνιστών του κορεάτικου λαϊκού κινήματος.
Η ταινία έχει βραβευτεί στο διεθνές φεστιβάλ της πόλης PUSAN.
Winner of the Best Documentary Award at the Pusan International Film Festival, Mun Jeong-Hyun’s Grandmother’s Flower is a moving exploration of Korea’s tumultuous and violent political past, as told through the experiences of Mun’s extended family.
Mun’s grandfather, barely survived the torture he endured for siding with the Korean People’s Army during the military intervention of the USA in Korea 1950-1953. Mun’s grandmother, meanwhile, harbours a haunting secret about the death of her brother, who was indiscriminately shot by puppet regime’s police while giving himself up. The more Mun digs into the dirty details of the past, the more he unearths the political persecutions and implacable pogroms that hundreds of thousands communists suffered in South Korea for over four decades.
The documentary marks the role of the Christian church which took the side of the blood-stained pro-USA Syngman Rhee’s regime and also the utilization of the illiteracy and the bribery of the poor farmers in the countryside, that helped the regime to win over a number of them in the fight against the Korean Popular Movement.

Plot synopsis
“On the Green Carpet” is a 2001 North Korean film directed by Rim Chang-bom and Jon Kwang-il. The film’s title refers to the turf of the stadium which hosts the May Day mass games in Pyongyang.
On the Green Carpet was the first North Korean film to be invited to the Berlin International Film Festival, where it was screened in 2004 as a special one-off event. It had been chosen by the festival committee from a selection of ten films, and aroused a great deal of interest.
The film is a drama, which involves a coach who is preparing a group of schoolchildren for the May Day mass games and a former colleague who has now become his superior. She feels that he is being too demanding of his young performers, as the show he has devised requires a series of multiple somersaults. However, the children are willing to work as hard as necessary and the film culminates in a lavish display of their abilities.
